Gold Coast Dolphins produce the goods to beat Ipswich-Logan in Queensland Premier Cricket

GOLD Coast are forming a blueprint along the lines of ‘we’ll outscore whatever you make’ after pulling off another big run chase.

The Dolphins have averaged conceding 310 in five completed two-day matches but on Saturday chased down a 300-plus target for the second time this season.

On this occasion, chasing Ipswich-Logan’s 9-306, it was Lewin Maladay who laid the foundations with a rock-solid 85 at first drop, complemented by smaller contributions from the rest of the order.

When the Dolphins were reduced to 7-241 and then 8-272, it was teen bowling all-rounder Josh Kann (46 not out) who saw them home.

“It was a pretty tough wicket, it was really slow and dead,” Kann said.

“Lewin 100 per cent set up the innings for the middle order and tail end to finish the innings. We know we bat so deep and we always have faith in our tail.”

Kann said the squad had built belief to run down any total put before them.

Individually, the 19-year-old is beginning to establish himself in the first XI and wants to eventually move into genuine all-rounder territory.

“It’s awesome. Last year there was a couple of injuries and I got put in first grade midway through the season,” he said.

“I am only sort of getting the standard now, that jump from second grade to first grade is quite big.

“Hopefully in the next couple of years I will move up the batting order a little bit.”

The Broadbeach Robina junior will miss Gold Coast’s Round 10 home game against Souths next weekend due to Queensland under-19 commitments.
